What is george tweed?

George Tweed was an American civilian who lived in Guam during the Japanese occupation of the island in World War II. Tweed managed to evade capture by the Japanese and hide in the jungles and caves of Guam for over two years, becoming known as the "Ghost of Guam."

During his time in hiding, Tweed managed to gather valuable intelligence on the Japanese forces and relay this information to American forces. He also helped coordinate the rescue of downed American pilots and other stranded civilians on the island.

After the liberation of Guam in 1944, Tweed's story became widely known and he was hailed as a hero. He was awarded the Navy Cross for his bravery and contributions to the war effort.

Tweed later wrote a book about his experiences titled "Robinson Crusoe, U.S.N.: The Adventures of George R. Tweed on Jap-Held Guam." He passed away in 1989 at the age of 78.
